This includes work on front end and back-end for the complete C/C++ compiler product line for hp's flagship chip PA-RISC. Also, handling the linker and the kernel debugger, involves the development of new features on the existing product line as well as fixing problems in the current product.

There is also a focus on work involving the IA64 compiler (i.e. with Intel's new IA64 architecture).

dynamic instrumentation

A binary transition tool, which allows one to run a binary, executable for a hardware plaform, on another hardware platform.

The system provides a seamless migration path wherein the executable is invoked on the target platform just the same way as it is invoked on the native platform.

Other areas of work are, the development of performance monitoring tools for the IA64 platform and the dynamic optimization of binaries providing performance boost.

CoolTown: hp's webcentric vision of the Future

A small research project started in hp Labs, CoolTown has captivated the imaginations of visionaries worldwide.

CoolTown creates information applications software and services geared for the incoming flood of a diverse, pervasive, networked computing environment. It optimises the scope of the web, in the creation of an open solution linked to CoolTown.

CoolTown demonstrations or plans are in the works in Finland, France, Japan, Singapore, and India and in at least 11 U.S. Locations. There is a focus on emerging technologies in Internet Enabled Applications, specifically geared towards the needs of Asia Pacific customers.

hp-UX is the flagship operating system of hp and it provides a scaleable, highly available platform across several segments - from file and print servers to supercomputers.
